Five days after Kevin Roliard was hospitalized with an undisclosed injury, Texas announced the freshman pitcher is not currently with the team.

Texas cited “personal issues” for his departure but did not elaborate on the issues or hospitalization, which occurred Sunday night. Texas coach David Pierce, though, said in a school-released statement he had been to the hospital to visit Roliard. Texas Athletic Director Mike Perrin and Roliard’s parents were also quoted in the news release.

Said Perrin: “We were made aware of the injury involving our baseball student-athlete Kevin Roliard on Sunday night, and it’s a very unfortunate situation. Coach Pierce and I have visited the hospital and talked with his family. Our baseball team was made aware, and they and any other members of our athletics community are being provided with access to counseling and support.”

A right-hander from Klein High, Roliard appeared in five games this season. Over 4⅔ innings, Roliard had a 0.00 ERA, seven walks and three strikeouts. Roliard last appeared in Texas’ 8-5 loss to Texas Tech on March 19.

Women’s tennis: The No. 21 Texas Longhorns defeated West Virginia 4-0 in Morgantown on Friday.

The Longhorns won the doubles point and came away with three singles victories to take the match. Neda Koprcina sealed the win with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Paula Goetz.

After the Longhorns won the doubles point, Petra Granic defeated Christina Jordan 6-1, 6-3 to make it 2-0 for Texas.

Bianca Turati topped Kaja Mrgole 6-2, 7-5 to pull Texas to within a win of securing the match.
