Matej Stransky scored twice, but that was well short of overcoming the Charlotte Checkers, who defeated the visiting Texas Stars 9-3 on Saturday evening.

Dennis Robertson had two goals and an assist to lead the Checkers (38-29-50), who scored four times in the first period.

Aleksi Saarela scored a goal and assisted on two others, and five other Checkers notched a goal and an assist apiece: Andrej Nestrasil, Andrew Miller, Andrew Poturalski, Patrick Brown and Patrick Dwyer. Philip Samuelsson also had a goal.

Levko Koper, Connor Brickley and Jake Chelios each assisted on two goals for Charlotte.

Justin Peters got the start for Texas (32-35-1-4) but was pulled midway through the second period after allowing five goals on 21 shots. Maxime Lagace finished and gave up four goals while making 13 saves.

Samuelsson put the Checkers up 1-0 on a power play 5 minutes, 17 seconds into the first period, and Robertson scored a little over six minutes later. Saarela’s and Dwyer’s goals came within three minutes of each other to put Charlotte up 4-0.

Stransky made it 4-1 on a power play 5:33 into the second period, but the Checkers responded with three straight goals by Nestrasil, Poturalski and Brown.

Stransky closed the period with his 26th goal of the season.

Miller and Robertson added two more goals for the Checkers in the third period and Ethan Werek capped the scoring for Texas.
