Boston Red Sox starter Steven Wright will undergo left knee surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

Wright is scheduled to have the surgery Monday.

The right-handed knuckleball specialist had been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a knee sprain sustained in Saturday’s start against the Cubs.

Wright has struggled in five starts this season, going 1-3 with an 8.25 ERA and giving up at least four runs in all but one start. Against the Cubs, Wright gave up five runs on seven hits and pitched into the seventh inning.

Last season, Wright was 13-6 with a 3.33 ERA in 24 starts and was selected to pitch in the All-Star Game. But his season came to an abrupt end in August after he injured his shoulder diving back into second base as a pinch runner during a game in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

Nationals: Slugger Bryce Harper left Thursday’s 4-2 win over Arizona after hurting his left groin and is day to day, according to manager Dusty Baker. Harper said he felt the injury while diving to make a catch during the third inning. He was replaced in right field by Chris Heisey to start the seventh.

Twins: Center fielder Byron Buxton was pulled Thursday against Oakland after running into the wall while tracking down a flyball by the A’s Matt Joyce in the fifth inning. The team said Buxton passed all the initial concussion tests. He will be evaluated again today.

Padres: A woman sitting two rows behind Colorado’s dugout at Petco Park was struck in the head by a bat that flew out of the hands of San Diego’s Hector Sanchez on Thursday. The woman was tended to by medical personnel and was able to walk up the steps to the concourse with an EMT before being taken out in a wheelchair.

Diamondbacks: Outfielder David Peralta (illness) was a late scratch by manager Torey Lovullo.

Dodgers: Broadcasting legend Vin Scully returned to Dodger Stadium on Wednesday to become the 11th inductee into the Dodgers ring of honor before a game against the San Francisco Giants. Scully retired last year following his 67th season broadcasting the team’s games.

Astros: Right-hander Collin McHugh (elbow injury) will begin playing catch at a short distance sometime this weekend.

Royals: Outfielder Alex Gordon was hit by a pitch for the 79th time, setting a franchise record he had shared with Mike Macfarlane.

White Sox: Right-hander Nate Jones went on the 10-day DL with elbow inflammation, and left-hander David Holmberg’s contract was purchased from Triple-A Charlotte.

Lydia Ko beat home favorite Ana Menendez, and the Jutanugarn sisters set up a second-round showdown in the Lorena Ochoa Match Play.

The top-ranked Ko edged Menendez 3 and 2 on Thursday at Club de Golf Mexico in the event that switched from stroke to match play and from November to April.

Third-ranked Ariya Jutanugarn will face older sister Moriya in the second round. Ariya beat Amy Anderson 5 and 4, and Moriya topped Alena Sharp 2 and 1.

“Is a little too early this week to see my sister, but ... tomorrow will be fun,” Moriya said.

Ko will face Jennifer Song, a 3-and-2 winner over Mi Hyang Li.
