Round Rock man, 23, charged with murder in father's death
A 23-year-old Round Rock man has been charged with murder in the death of his father in Travis County, officials said Sunday afternoon.
Tabyes (Ta-bye-es) Sauls was arrested after Travis County sheriff ’s officials interviewed him following the discovery of his father’s body on a stretch of road between Manor and Pflugerville.
Multiple calls for service early Sunday morning led emergency officials to a car on the side of the road in the 11000 block of Gregg Lane. The car was in a field, partially concealed by mesquite trees and behind barbed wire, Capt. Craig Smith said.
A man in his mid-40s was discovered next to the vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was not breathing when authorities arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:35 a.m.
“Detectives from our homicide division immediately began a homicide investigation and found the decedent was last seen with his two adult sons,” Smith said. “Within a few hours the two men had been located and interviews were taking place. Detectives used the interviews as well as evidence that was located and collected at the scene to arrest 23-year-old Tabyes Sauls.”
The investigation will continue for several more days. Detectives
will execute a search warrant to further examine the vehicle.
Smith declined to give additional details, such as the identity of the victim or anyone else involved, the motive for the shooting or where the victim was shot.
“We had a very intense collaborative effort between our dispatchers, our patrol deputies, detectives, our crime scene specialists, victim services, and we relied heavily upon the district attorney’s office,” Smith said of the investigation. “This collabo
ration led to a very quick conclusion, so we’re very happy about that.”
The victim’s identity will be released upon confirmation by the Travis County medical examiner’s office, officials said.
