Mets suspend Harvey 3 days

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey was suspended three days without pay by the team Sunday for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

General manager Sandy Alderson announced the suspension in a brief statement before the game, shortly before Harvey was scheduled to start against Miami. Alderson said the right-hander had been sent home, but declined further comment.

Left-hander Adam Wilk was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to face the Marlins. In his first big league game since 2015, the lefty gave up six runs and eight hits in 3⅔ innings. New York had only one hit in a 7-0 loss and was shut out for the first time.

The Mets said the suspension took effect Saturday.

In his first season after having a rib removed to treat thoracic outlet syndrome, Harvey is 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA in 35 innings. He is coming off two of the worst starts of his career, allowing 12 runs over 9⅔ innings with eight walks in losses to Atlanta.

Coming off two straight playoff appearances, the injury-plagued Mets are 14-16.

New York is missing pitcher Noah Syndergaard, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, first baseman Lucas Duda, catcher Travis d’Arnaud, pitcher Steven Matz, pitcher Seth Lugo, third baseman David Wright and outfielder Brandon Nimmo (hamstring).

Angels: Mike Trout was out of the starting lineup for the second straight day to rest his tight left hamstring. The AL MVP says he expects to play today at Oakland.

Indians: Left fielder Michael Brantley left in the fourth inning Sunday with a right ankle sprain. He probably won’t miss more than a day or two, manager Terry Francona said.

Cardinals: Outfielder-first baseman Jose Martinez was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a groin strain.

Cubs: Left-hander Brett Anderson went on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back strain.
