Friday’s win came after Texas State’s 3-2 win over eighth-seeded Arkansas State on Thursday.
The Bobcats took the lead on a controversial call in the eighth inning when Teddy Hoffman was initially called out on a play at the plate, but the call was reversed after a video replay.
It was the first replay ever in a Sun Belt Tournament game.
“I really felt confident that he’d gotten in,” Bobcats coach Ty Harrington said. “There were so many guys standing around home plate that I thought it made it difficult for the umpire to get to see it. That’s what I asked him.
“I think there were three players standing around home plate; I said, ‘I’d like, if there’s any way possible, can you please review this, because I really think he’s in there.’ And they did; they did what’s right. You have to get the call right.”
Rain delays in Statesboro, Ga., have caused scheduling issues; the tournament was moved from a double- to a single-elimination format.
