Former manager, 89, will need rehab following surgery.

Hall of Fame manager Tom Lasorda is recovering after surgery to replace his pacemaker.

The Los Angeles Dodgers said Friday on Twitter that Lasorda “is doing well.” He had the surgery Thursday.

A team official says Lasorda will be undergoing rehab for the next few days before being released from the hospital, where the 89-year-old former manager has been for more than two weeks.

He has a history of heart problems, including a heart attack in 2012 when he received a pacemaker for the first time. Lasorda has been hospitalized several times in the last year, including after a fall in August.

Lasorda is a special adviser to the Dodgers chairman. He guided the team to two World Series titles, including their last in 1988. He’s spent nearly seven decades in the organization, beginning as a minor league pitcher in 1949.

Lasorda still makes numerous appearances on behalf of the team, traveling often for charitable appearances, community events and visits to military personnel.

Red Sox: Infielder Marco Hernandez will be out the rest of the season after surgery on his left shoulder. Hernandez was put on the disabled list May 4 with a left shoulder misalignment. The 24-year-old hit .276 with two RBIs in 21 games.

Blue Jays: Infielders Josh Donaldson (who had been out with a sore right calf ) and Troy Tulowitzki (sore right hamstring) were activated and in the lineup against Texas. The injury-wracked Blue Jays are still without three starting pitchers — right-hander and reigning AL ERA leader Aaron Sanchez, left-hander and 20-game winner J.A. Happ and lefthander Francisco Liriano.

Athletics: Right-hander Kendall Graveman was scratched from his start at Yankee Stadium, but the team did not give a reason.

White Sox: Right-hander James Shields, out since April 16 with a strained right back muscle, said he is nearly ready for a rehab assignment after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session for the second time in three days.

Etc.: Babe Ruth’s 1927 World Series ring and the 1919 contract of the Hall of Famer’s sale from the Red Sox to the Yankees are part of the first Lelands.com Invitational Auction, which is being held through June 30.
