The people in the tornado’s path

The F5 tornado that shredded much of the Double Creek Estates had winds that reached an estimated 261 miles per hour. Twenty-seven people were killed.

1. Danny Hammett’s mobile home was damaged. Hammett was at work when the storm hit.

2. Juanitta Peterson hid in her bathroom with daughter-in-law LaDonna Peterson, daughter Bonnie Hammett, grandson Dusty Peterson and granddaugh­ter Bonitta Hammett. Only the bathroom was left standing. All survived.

3. The Moehrings — father Keith, 40; mother Cindy, 40; son Erik, 16; and son Ryan, 15 — all died.

4. Virginia Davidson hid in her bathtub as her house disintegra­ted around her.

Her husband, James Davidson, was at work and later found her alive about 200 feet away, in the middle of the road.

5. Emma Jean Mullins, 44, and grandson Ryan Fillmore, 5, were killed.

6. Bill LaFrance, 41, put his daughter Kristin, 9, and wife Debby into the bathtub. Not wanting to crowd them, he

huddled next to it. They survived. He was killed.

7. Ruth Carmonas, 34, died with son Michael, 15, and daughter Satyn, 13.

8. The Igos — Larry, 46; Joan, 47; Audrey, 17; John, 15; and Paul, 15 — all died.

9. Bernice Gower, 37, and son Brian, 11 were kil led.

10. Cindy Smith, 36 and daughters Brandi, 11, and Stacy, 10, were killed.

11. Vicki Taylor, 36, died with her son Johnathan Kehl, 16.

12. Maria Ruiz,. 50,and her sons, John and Michael, were killed.

13. Polly Gibbs’ two daughters, visiting from out of town, were in the house and survived, despite it being mostly destroyed.

14. Vicki Woodward survived the tornado.

15. The Hernandez family survived the tornado.
