Mayfield plea deal has fines, restitution
He’ll pay $963 total for three charges; resisting arrest was dropped.
Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield pleaded guilty Monday in an Arkansas court to three misdemeanor charges resulting from an incident in February.
The former Lake Travis star reached a plea agreement late last week with the Fayetteville District Court to pay $483 in restitution and $480 in fines for public intoxication, disorderly conduct and fleeing the scene. Prosecutors dropped a resisting arrest charge.
Mayfield, the reigning Big 12 offensive player of the year and a leading Heisman Trophy candidate, did not get a break, according to the Fayetteville city prosecutor. Brian Thomas said Mayfield was given a typical offer and “treated like anyone else.”
The fifth-year senior was arrested Feb. 25 after a night of partying. Dashcam footage showed police tackling Mayfield into a wall as he tried to run from the scene.
Oklahoma won’t suspend Mayfield for any football games. The school announced last week that he will be required to complete 35 hours of community service and take an alcohol education course before the fall semester.
Wolverines headed back to Europe? Coach Jim Harbaugh is talking up another trip to Europe for his Michigan Wolverines. Harbaugh told reporters Saturday the team voted for London, Paris and Normandy, France, for next year’s trip. The team went to Rome this offseason, but Harbaugh said he thought afterward about the possibility of going to multiple locales next time.
Harbaugh spoke during a break in a camp for high school quarterbacks.
The Michigan coach also has said he wants to have former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, as honorary captains for a game this season. He said the Wolverines are in the process of officially asking the Obamas.
