Snider’s double in ninth is winner

Two-run hit breaks tie; Alvarez escapes trouble for save.

Travis Snider hit a two-run double in the ninth inning, leading the Round Rock Express to a 6-4 win over the host Nashville Sounds on Tuesday night.

R.J. Alvarez struck out Melvin Mercedes with runners on first and third to end the game for his third save of the season.

Snider’s double scored Brett Nicholas and Ryan Rua, breaking a 4-4 tie. Snider finished 4 for 5.

Rua finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Nicholas was 2 for 5 with two runs scored.

Adam Loewen (4-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief.

Jake Sanchez (1-1), who pitched the ninth, took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game.

The Sounds (37-40) failed to capitalize on some good scoring chances, leaving 13 runners on base.

Kenny Wilson singled twice and stole two bases for the Sounds.

The Express (37-40) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second after an RBI groundout by Jason Martinson and a two-run single by Jurickson Profar.

The Sounds cut into the lead with an RBI triple by Mercedes and an RBI single by Wilson to make it 3-2 in the bottom of the inning.

Nashville tied the game in the fourth on a wild pitch, but Round Rock regained the lead in the fifth on Rua’s RBI single.

The Sounds tied the game one final time in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Jaff Decker to score Mercedes.

The third game of the fourgame series was scheduled for Wednesday night in Nashville.
