Q: It each at St. Edwards. I also sing in my church’s choir. Voices in both of these situations are becoming harder and harder to understand. How can a hearing aid help me in such wildly different environment?

A: Today’s most sophisticated and robust hearing aids are able to improve speech clarity in vastly different situations because of the highly advanced mirco-processors at their heart.

Take the Oticon Opn hearing aid as an example. The proprietary chip at its heart is called the VeloxTM. Because of the extremely fast, accurate, and intelligent nature of the VeloxTM chip, the Oticon Opn hearing aid is the first hearing aid in the world proven to make it easier on the brain.

A well trained hearing professional should create multiple listening settings for your hearing aids based on the situations where you have the most difficulty. In your case, your hearing aids could have a unique ‘Classroom’ setting and a different setting for ‘Choir’. During normal everyday situations, your hearing aids will continue to add clarity to what you hear.

Some of the other unique settings I have created for patients in the past include ‘Restaurant’, ‘Grandkids’, ‘Soft Voices’, ‘Piano’, ‘Guitar’, ‘Golf ’, ‘Tennis’, ‘At Bridge’, ‘In a Movie’, and ‘Mother-InLaw’.
