U.S. Rep. Bill Flores, R-Bryan, has some advice for President Donald Trump: Throw your adult kids out of the White House.

“I’m going out on a limb here, but I would say I think it would be in the president’s best interest if he removed all of his children from the White House. Not only Donald Trump ( Jr.), but Ivanka and Jared Kushner,” he told Bryan TV station KBTX on Wednesday. “I wish that he would get them out of the way so that we could have professional staff at the White House handle policy issues.”

Flores, who represents parts of North Austin and Pflugerville, was responding to a question about the revelation that Donald Trump Jr. in 2016 sought damaging information about his father’s general election opponent Hillary Clinton. The New York Times reported this week that a Trump Jr. confidante told him via email that a Russian contact had information that “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father,” and added, “This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

Flores said the meeting should not have happened.

Flores was not an early supporter of Trump during the primary campaign. He criticized candidate Trump for his comments about a Hispanic federal judge, saying Trump should “start addressing the issues of the country instead of bashing judges.” Flores also condemned Trump’s salacious comments about women in a 2005 video released last October.

Other Central Texas Republican congressmen haven’t spoken publicly about the latest Donald Trump Jr. news.

Besides the Russia scandal, Trump has been under fire for naming his daughter Ivanka and her husband, Kushner, White House advisers. Trump has given Kushner a slew of responsibilities, including leading the White House Office of American Innovation and brokering peace in the Middle East. The president and Ivanka Trump, who didn’t bring economic or foreign policy experience to her job, recently came under fire when she briefly sat in for her father during a session at the G-20 summit in Germany. Kushner and Ivanka Trump are unpaid staffers.
