Last Hodges quint heads home after 4 months in Austin hospital

The babies, born three months prematurel­y, all are healthy, doctors say.

The Hodges family has grown by five.

On July 23, after four months of one or more of the quintuplet­s being kept in the neonatal intensive care unit at Seton Medical Center Austin, Liz and Daniel Hodges prepared to take their new brood home to Temple on Sunday.

“Looking at these babies, you know that miracles exist,” Liz Hodges said. “Being born three months premature and seeing how healthy and well they are doing is beyond amazing, and you know there’s a God out there.”

The babies, born on March 24, are named Teagan, Connell, Liam, Nolan and Dillon. Teagan, the only girl of the bunch, was born first. The Hodgeses also have a 2-year-old son, Rowan, who waffles between vying restlessly for his parents’ attention and wanting to help his mom and dad by giving his younger siblings their pacifiers. It’s been a long, stressful four months for the entire family.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared to death many times. I know that Liz was,” Daniel Hodges said. “Our concerns changed a lot over time — initially it was making sure they were still breathing, making sure there weren’t any complicati­ons all of a sudden, problems with their heart, problems with brain bleeds, things like that.”

Finally, two weeks ago, Liam and Connell were the first babies to go home with their parents from the NICU. Teagan and Nolan joined the clan at home a few days later. Dillon didn’t leave the hospital until Sunday.
