Round Rock tri­umphs in 11 in­nings

Trail­ing by a run and down to their last out in the bot­tom of the 11th, the Round Rock Ex­press got a two-run dou­ble from Will Mid­dle­brooks to beat the El Paso Chi­huahuas 7-6 in a Pa­cific Coast League game Mon­day night at Dell Di­a­mond.

The Chi­huahuas had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the 11th when Tony Cruz hit a home run.

El Paso re­liever Chris­tian Bethancourt (2-2) got two outs in the bot­tom half be­fore giv­ing up a sin­gle to Drew Stubbs and a walk to Ron­ald Guz­man. Mid­dle­brooks then lined a dou­ble to the gap in left-cen­ter, and it rolled to the wall as Stubbs and Guz­man scored to give Round Rock the vic­tory.

The Ex­press had taken a 5-4 lead into the ninth, but closer Pre­ston Clai­borne sur­ren­dered a walk to Ryan Schimpf and an RBI dou­ble to Travis Jankowski.

Joely Rodriguez (2-0) got the win de­spite giv­ing up Cruz’s homer. He went two in­nings, al­low­ing two hits and strik­ing out two.

A f i ve-run fourth put the Ex­press up 5-1. A.J. Jimenez started the rally with a solo homer. Pete Kozma, Doug Bernier, Luis Marte and Jared Hoy­ing strung to­gether four sin­gles, pro­duc­ing a pair of runs, and Stubbs de­liv­ered a two-run dou­ble.

Chase d’Ar­naud blasted a solo home run for El Paso in the sixth. The Chi­huahuas got two more in the sev­enth on Peter Van Gansen’s sac­ri­fice fly and Franchy Cordero’s RBI triple.
