Round Rock triumphs in 11 innings
Trailing by a run and down to their last out in the bottom of the 11th, the Round Rock Express got a two-run double from Will Middlebrooks to beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 7-6 in a Pacific Coast League game Monday night at Dell Diamond.
The Chihuahuas had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the 11th when Tony Cruz hit a home run.
El Paso reliever Christian Bethancourt (2-2) got two outs in the bottom half before giving up a single to Drew Stubbs and a walk to Ronald Guzman. Middlebrooks then lined a double to the gap in left-center, and it rolled to the wall as Stubbs and Guzman scored to give Round Rock the victory.
The Express had taken a 5-4 lead into the ninth, but closer Preston Claiborne surrendered a walk to Ryan Schimpf and an RBI double to Travis Jankowski.
Joely Rodriguez (2-0) got the win despite giving up Cruz’s homer. He went two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.
A f i ve-run fourth put the Express up 5-1. A.J. Jimenez started the rally with a solo homer. Pete Kozma, Doug Bernier, Luis Marte and Jared Hoying strung together four singles, producing a pair of runs, and Stubbs delivered a two-run double.
Chase d’Arnaud blasted a solo home run for El Paso in the sixth. The Chihuahuas got two more in the seventh on Peter Van Gansen’s sacrifice fly and Franchy Cordero’s RBI triple.
