Lakeway wedding planner Samantha Schwertner Rosenberg said she was “unbelievably flattered” to be asked to plan a Hill Country wedding for pro golfer Sergio Garcia and Angela Akins. The couple asked for an elegant and intimate ceremony, which Rosenberg coordinated with a few uniquely golf-centric touches.

Garcia, who has played in both the PGA and the European tours and has won dozens of tournaments internationally, including the Masters this year, married Akins on July 29 in the presence of 80 guests, Rosenberg said, after seven months of planning. The bride is a former University of Texas golfer.

“From start to finish, the planning process was just short of seven months — a typically very tight turnaround in this industry,” Rosenberg said via email. “Angela’s mom, Pam, reached out to me shortly after Sergio and Angela got engaged on New Year’s Eve, and needless to say, we started planning right away. The planning for this wedding was unique in that most of it was accomplished over the phone since Angela and Sergio were always on the move for his various tournaments.”

Rosenberg says she wanted to be a wedding planner ever since she was young and working at an Austin bridal shop in high school. Her wedding planning business is Samantha Elizabeth Events. The rewarding part of planning weddings is always when months of planning come together in a happy ceremony at the end, she said. But she also enjoys a challenge.

“The biggest challenge in planning weddings are all of the unknown factors that have the potential to pop up at the very end, or sometimes, on the actual day of,” Rosenberg said. “Whether it be venue restrictions, weather or just hiccups that come up along the way, there are so many unknown variables that planning can only do so much for. ... This is an area where I truly thrive.”

Rosenberg coordinated details tailored to the couple such as customized golf balls as guest gifts and tee name holders at reception tables, to the Masters-themed after-party, she said.

“It was flawless,” Rosenberg said of the ceremony. “I couldn’t have asked for a sweeter couple or a better group of vendors to work for and with . ... This was a wedding for the books, and I am truly honored to have been a part of it.”
