Central Texas offering many viewing events,

Some parties featuring celestial phenomenon to provide glasses.

Want to get in on the solar eclipse frenzy? If you haven’t made your Eclipse Day plans yet, there are tons of events in the Central Texas area for familyfrie­ndly astronomic­al fun.

Here is a collection of places to go and things to do Monday:

AUSTIN

Balcones Park Viewing Party, 1:10 p.m., 12017 Amherst Drive: Join neighbors for a viewing at the Balcones District Park. Glasses won’t be provided.

North Austin Eclipse Party, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 15001 Wells Port Drive: Get some free solar glasses, refreshmen­ts and informatio­n about the eclipse during this viewing party at the Wells Branch Community Library.

Northwest Austin Eclipse Party, noon to 2 p.m., 2500 Exposition Blvd.: Don’t have glasses? Get crafty and make pinhole projectors with the Austin Public Library’s Howson Branch. Then watch the eclipse.

University of Texas Viewing, 11:41 a.m. to 2:39 p.m., Robert Lee Moore Hall, 2515 Speedway: Get some free glasses and watch the eclipse with members of the UT Astronomy Department.

Eclipse Viewing and Digital Planetariu­m Eclipse Show, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Austin Nature and Science Center, 2389 Stratford Drive: Check out the eclipse and a video of how an eclipse works in the center’s new digital planetariu­m. Limited number of eclipse glasses will be available.

BASTROP

Bastrop State Park Viewing, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Historic Golf Shelter, 100 Park Road 1A: Learn about what eclipses are, how they happen and how animal behaviors change as the sky gets darker in the middle of the day. $5 per person for 12 years and older. Glasses provided.

BUDA

Buda Eclipse Party, noon to 2 p.m., 303 Main St.: Get a load of the eclipse fun with activities, art and stories, and watch the partial eclipse at 1:10 p.m. during this free event on the Buda Library lawn. Library will provide solar glasses for safe viewing.

CEDAR PARK

Texas Museum of Science & Technology Viewing, 10 a.m. to 2:40 p.m., 1220 Toro Grande Drive: The museum will have activities and special shows about the sun in its planetariu­m as well as experts on hand to help view the eclipse safely and answer questions. Glasses provided.

JOHNSON CITY

Johnson City Library

Viewing Party, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 501 Nugent Ave.: Check out the eclipse with the Johnson City Library, make a keepsake solar book, create a solar dance, have some solar cookies, write eclipse poetry, make a time capsule for the next eclipse in 2024 and more.

PFLUGERVIL­LE

Pflugervil­le Eclipse Party, 11:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., 1008 W. Pfluger St.: The Pflugervil­le Public Library will throw an eclipse bash for all ages with crafts and a screening of “Wall-E” at 2 p.m. Glasses provided. Viewing time will be between 1 and 1:15 p.m.

ROUND ROCK

Round Rock Eclipse

Party, noon to 2 p.m., 221 East Main St.: The Round Rock Public Library, in partnershi­p with the Space Science Institute, will host a free party at Prete Plaza. Glasses will be provided.

TAYLOR

Taylor Public Library

Viewing, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., 801 Vance St.: Get your fill of the eclipse and free moon pies. Free viewing glasses while they last.

WEST TEXAS

McDonald Observator­y Viewing Event, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 3640 Dark Sky Drive, Fort Davis: Forget the glasses and check out the eclipse through a filtered telescope from the center’s courtyard areas. It’s a bit of a trek — 450 miles from Austin. The observator­y, which is affiliated with UT-Austin, also will offer theater viewing in the Visitors Center by way of specially filtered telescopes and high-resolution video cameras.
