As if the San Jose State Spartans weren’t enough, Tom Herman and his Longhorn football team also must take on MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1) this weekend.

A lane on each side of North MoPac, through different stretches of the toll lane construction project, will be closed from Friday evening to early Monday, along with the southbound entrance ramp at RM 2222 and the southbound exit ramp at West 45th Street. The closures are needed so crews can repave those areas.

That will leave just two of the three primary lanes on each side available during the period when Longhorn fans are going to and from the game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

“We’d like to get this particularly significant element out of the way” in a single weekend, rather than over five or six nights, said Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority spokesman Steve Pustelnyk. “If people are going to the game, they might want to plan for a different route or account for delay.”

Additionally, the middle southbound lane will be closed overnight this weekend from RM 2222 to West 45th, leaving a single lane available in that direction from dusk to dawn. Those closures will run from 8 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday; and from 7 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

On the northbound side, the left lane nearest the median will be closed all weekend, as well, from Enfield Road to RM 2222. At least two lanes will be open for drivers on that side, including overnights.

The closures will allow long periods for crews to lay multiple layers of asphalt on the southbound side and on the northbound side to put on a final layer of specialized
