With sunny skies and high temperatures, the last thing our body craves is a plate full of mashed potatoes and meat.

Making good meal choices is not only essential for your health, but it can also provide more pep in your step throughout the day.

And while finding healthy options when heading out to eat can be difficult, there are a few local gems that have their customers’ health in mind when dishing up a delicious plate.

Here are some of the best restaurants in and around Round Rock and Williamson County offering healthy choices — and more than just a pile of lettuce.

This fast-casual restaurant makes eating healthy easy. Salata offers a variety of fresh ingredients and more than 50 toppings to create your own masterpiece in the form of a salad or wrap. If you are on-the-go and don’t have any time to waste, this is your spot.

Nancy’s Sky Garden

1105 S. Mays St., Round Rock; 501 S. Austin Ave., fourth floor, Georgetown

If you’re craving a filling and guiltfree option, Nancy’s Sky Garden is the place to go. The restaurant has a menu catering to vegetarians (meat eaters can also get their own dose of protein as well) and is mainly gluten-free besides its spicy red dressing. The food is refreshing and light, skipping oils and salt commonly hidden in dishes, and it also has a fine selection of herbal teas.

Monument Cafe

500 S. Austin Avenue, Georgetown This classic roadside cafe is a crowdpleaser, offering both healthy and greasy options for guests with all types of appetites. The beloved restaurant dishes up foods that are farm fresh and never frozen, and has a wide selection of salads and guilt-free breakfast options such as quiches. Guests can also buy farmfresh foods at the Monument Market, which is definitely a plus.

Farm to Fork

11880 Old Farm to Market Road 2243, Suite 201, Leander

Farm to Fork serves local Texas and organic foods without GMOs so you know you are eating quality when visiting. The menu is based on Texas southern cuisine with a French flare, and is nicely priced for what you are getting. The house-roasted turkey BLT wrap is a solid healthy choice on the menu, and the daily specials occasionally offer a healthy surprise.
