Judge seeks info about Crew SC’s potential move

San Antonio wants MLS team but fears losing out if Crew SC relocate to Austin.

As Columbus fans rally around the Crew SC before a home playoff game Tuesday night, Major League Soccer faces an inquiry from Bexar County officials involving the team’s potential move to Austin.

San Antonio is bidding for an expansion MLS team but sees itself being squeezed out if the Crew SC relocate to Austin, as owner Anthony Precourt desires should Columbus not build a new stadium.

MLS already has two Texas teams, FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo, and San Antonio or Austin has always been considered an either/or situation, especially with their proximity to each other.

On Monday, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff sent a letter to MLS Commissioner Don Garber asking him to clarify the timeline of events that led to Precourt’s pursuit of a move to Austin.
