Turati advances at ITA National

Scott lone Horn to reach second round in men’s singles.

Tex a s wo m e n’s t e n - nis player Bianca Turati advanced to the round of 32 at the ITA National Fall Championsh­ips i n Indian Wells, Calif., on Wednesday.

Turati defeated Taylor Russo of Auburn 6-4, 6-1.

“Bianc a Turati c ame through with a very solid victory against a tremendous competitor and player from Auburn,” UT assistant coach Taylor Fogleman said.

Petra Granic was unable to get past Alle Sanford of North Carolina. The Texas sophomore fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Dani Wagland and Marta Perez-Mur fell to Karla Popovic and Olivia Hauger of California 6-3, 6-3 in doubles competitio­n. The Texas duo will continue playing in the consolatio­n draw.

Meanwhile, three UT men advanced at the tournament.

Harrison Scott was the only Longhorn to qualify for the second round of the singles draw. He came back to defeat Jack Molloy of California 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles teamed up to top Runhao Hua and Alex Knight of Michigan 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (119) in doubles action.

Telles fell in the singles draw to Nuno Borges of Mississipp­i State 7-5, 6-1.

Softball: Texas won its sixth game this fall as it topped McLennan Community College 12-0 Wednesday at McCombs Field.

The Longhorns had 14 hits and have now outscored their fall opponents 45-4.

Taylor Ellsworth was 3 for 4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs. Janae Jefferson went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and a triple. Paige von Sprecken went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Brooke Bolinger gave up just one hit in two innings. Erica Wright finished, allowing two hits and striking out four in two innings.

Texas next will face the National Pro Fastpitch Texas All-Stars on Friday. Former Longhorns Brejae Washington and Nadia Taylor play for the pro squad. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network at 6:30 p.m.
