Austin’s Planview buys Tenn. project firm

Austin software maker Planview is expanding its project management offerings with the acquisitio­n of a Tennessee-based firm, the company said Monday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LeanKit, based in Franklin, Tenn., sells project management and forecastin­g tools designed to help developmen­t and IT teams apply so-called lean management principles to their projects.

“By joining Planview and LeanKit together, we committing to helping our customers execute better and build process excellence that will advance all their work and resource management capabiliti­es,” Greg Gilmore, Planview’s CEO, said in a written statement.

Planview was founded in 1989, and in January the company was acquired by Thoma Bravo, a Chicago-based private equity firm. Financial terms of that deal were not disclosed.

Last year, the company moved into a new 51,000-square-foot headquarte­rs at 12301 Research Blvd. The company said the new space would allow for 50 percent growth in its employee headcount.

Planview currently has about 725 employees worldwide, including 275 in Austin.

LeanKit, which was founded in 2009 and has 70 employees, is Planview’s fourth acquisitio­n.

Last year, Planview bought San Francisco-based Innotas for an undisclose­d sum. Innotas develops software for project portfolio management and resource and financial management.
