Costello lifts Austin in OT win

Third consecutiv­e victory boosts Spurs’ record to 11-7.

Matt Costello had 18 points and seven rebounds to help the Austin Spurs top the Canton Charge 100-96 in overtime Sunday afternoon at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

The victory was the third in a row for the Spurs, who improved their NBA G League record to 11-7.

Costello hit 6 of 13 shots from the field and all six of his free throws, and he contribute­d three blocks on defense during his 27 minutes on the floor.

Derrick White added 15 points and four assists in 20 minutes.

Jaron Blossomgam­e had his sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Canton, which fell to 6-9, was led by Isaac Hamilton. He had 21 points and seven rebounds coming off the bench, and his shot with 2.5 seconds left sent the game into overtime tied at 94.

Marcus Thornton scored 16 points and had three rebounds for the Charge.

Austin hit eight of its first 10 shots in the first quarter.

Canton had a 12-2 run in the second period, but the Spurs responded with an 18-4 stretch to go up 52-36 at the half.

The Charge’s 14-3 run at the end of the third quarter tied it at 73.

The fourth period featured three ties and eight lead changes.

In overtime, the Spurs scored the first four points and held on to win.

Next up for Austin will be the Agua Caliente Clippers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the H-E-B Center.
