Hilliard, Blossomgame help Spurs rebound to top N. Arizona
Darrun Hilliard scored 27 points and rookie Jaron Blossomgame notched a double-double as the Austin Spurs defeated the Northern Arizona Suns 113-105 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Thursday night.
The win halted a twogame losing streak for Austin, which will host Grand Rapids on Saturday.
Hilliard connected on 9 of 16 field goals as the Spurs (16-12) shot 51 percent from the field. Blossomgame scored 21 points to go with 12 rebounds. He was 9 of 15 from the floor.
Olivier Hanlan added 20 points as he went 8-for-13 while hitting 2 of 3 3-pointers. The Spurs made 11 3-pointers as they shot 38 percent from deep. The Suns hit just 19 percent of their 3-pointers, going 6-for-31.
Archie Goodwin and Josh Gray each scored 25 points to lead the Suns (11-15).
The Spurs trailed by 15 points at halftime, but they got hot in the third quarter to regain the lead.
Austin outscored the Suns 32-13 in the period to take control of the game.
After trailing by as many as 17 points, the Spurs built a 14-point lead.
The Suns held a 58-44 advantage in points in the paint but were outscored 28-18 on the fast break.
The Spurs shared the ball well, with 22 assists. Jeff Ledbetter led with nine assists and added 19 points. He was 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.
Jerry Kelly and Gene Sauers shot 8-under 64s Thursday to share the first-round lead at the season opener on the PGA Tour Champions in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
