Austin rallies for victory over Grand Rapids

The Austin Spurs built a big lead early but had to come back to defeat the Grand Rapids Drive 104-93 in an NBA G League contest Saturday at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Six Spurs scored in double figures as the team improved to 17-12. Grand Rapids fell to 14-17.

Olivier Hanlan led the Spurs with 19 points on 7-of- 11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. He added four assists and two steals in the win.

Darrun Hilliard scored 16 points and added five rebounds and four assists for Austin. Nick Johnson had 15 points while connecting on three 3-pointers.

Brandon Paul, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, scored 13 points and collected seven rebounds.

Jaron Blossomgam­e was close to a double-double, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds to lead Austin on the boards.

The Spurs hit 51 percent of their shots and started the game strong. They led 27-13 after the first period and led by 10 points at halftime.

The Drive made a come- back, however, outscoring the Spurs 32-19 in the third period to take a three-point lead.

Bronson Koenig led all scorers with 20 points for the Grand Rapids.

Austin utilized a 9-0 run early in the final frame to regain the lead and stay ahead.

The Spurs will go for their third win in a row Wednesday when they travel to Ontario, Calif., to face the Agua Caliente Clippers at 9 p.m.
