Texas track and field teams take second place in College Station
The Texas track and field teams took second place at the Texas A&M Quadrangular on Saturday in College Station.
The men won nine events on the day, but the Aggies came out victorious. Texas A&M scored 164 points while Texas recorded 160.5.
On the women’s side, the Aggies scored 150 points while Texas earned 130.
Micaiah Harris, a freshman, won the men’s 200-meter race in 20.87 seconds to highlight the day. It was the third-best time in school history and the sixth-best time in the NCAA this season.
John Burt won the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.82 for a personal best and the No. 5 performance in school history.
Sam Worley won the 800 with a time of 1 minute, 50.62 seconds while Alex Rogers won the mile in 4:07.93. John Rice took the 3,000 meters in 8:18.21. In field events, Steffin McCarter, Alan Zapalac, O’Brien Wasome and Tripp Piperi earned wins.
Piperi set a meet record with his shot put of 63 feet, 4 inches. Zapalac also set a meet record, throwing the weight 71-½. McCarter posted the second-best mark in the long jump in the NCAA this season at 25-9¼. Wasome won the triple jump with a mark of 52-6.
The women took two wins at the meet. Kally Long won the pole vault by clearing a height of 13-4¼. Rushelle Burton won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.16, the seventh-best time in the NCAA this season.
Georgia Wahl took second in the long jump with a personal best mark of 19-2¾. Elena Bruckner put the shot 53-6.50 for second place. Lauryn Caldwell had the second-best weight throw mark in school history (60-5¾), but it was only good for third place.
The Texas track and field team next travels to Lubbock for the Texas Tech Invitational on Friday.
