Conrad to join franchise’s Hall

Ex-second baseman holds a lot of career marks for team.

Longtime Round Rock Express second baseman Brooks Conrad, the franchise record-holder for games played, will become the fifth member of the club’s Hall of Fame.

Conrad, who played in 519 games in 2004-07, earned the honor over pitchers Chris Sampson and Kirk Saarloos through a fan vote, together with input from a panel of Express front-office staff and current Hall of Fame members.

He joins manager Jackie Moore (2014), third baseman Morgan Ensberg (2015), pitcher Roy Oswalt (2016) and second baseman Keith Ginter (2017). Conrad is the first of the group to have not played on the 2000 Texas League championship team in the first season in Round Rock.

Conrad retains franchise marks for career at-bats (1,963), runs (353), hits (507), doubles (136), triples (27), extra-base hits (243), total bases (937) and RBIs (304).

His 2004 season was the highlight, batting .290 with 84 runs, 83 RBIs, 58 extrabase hits and a .365 on-base percentage. Conrad played in the Texas League All-Star game that year and won team MVP honors.

Conrad played parts of six seasons in the major leagues in a utility role, starting in 2008 with Oakland. His top year was 2010 in Atlanta when he had eight home runs and 33 RBIs in 156 at-bats.

He will be inducted Saturday, July 28, before the Express play the Reno Aces.

Round Rock opens the season Thursday, April 5, against the Memphis Redbirds at Dell Diamond.
