Cedar Park show looks to get graduates home safe

- By David Wilfong

After the Christmas holidays have passed and the kids return to school, parents start thinking forward to the end of the school year. For many of these parents, this is the last year of public education and their children will soon be graduating.

Some of these parents also drive hot rods, and they want their students’ ride home to be safe on graduation night.

“We’re having a car show to raise money for a fundraiser we call Project Graduation,” said organizer Robert Juarez. “It’s to keep the graduating seniors safe the night of graduation. We raise money to give them an alcohol and drug-free party that they will stay at all night. And for that we have had fundraisers all year.”

The Cedar Park High Car Show and Market Day will be held on Feb. 24 at 2150 Cypress Creek Road in Cedar Park (at Cedar Park High School). Registration for vehicles will run 8-10 a.m. on the day of the event, and the cost is $20 per vehicle. The car show runs until 1 p.m. This is an open show and any make or model is welcome (including cars, trucks and bikes).

The Market Day part of the event runs until 3 p.m. Vendor space is $50 and registration forms are available at www. cphsprojectgrad.com. Other fundraising activities on slate include food trucks, a silent auction and bake sale. Find opportunities to contribute or volunteer at the event website.
