A tribute to ‘Dreamers,’ fun for gamers and a whole lot of music at SXSW

South by Southwest 2018 continues, with the music side of the festival now at full volume. Here are five things to know about today:

1 The first of three days of shows at SXSW’s Outdoor Stage at Vic Mathias Shores, 900 Riverside Drive, are themed“Dream Out Loud” and are presented in partnershi­p with Voto Latino. Headliners are Los Lobos, with Centavrvs, El Freaky and Los Super Seven also playing. The music starts at 5:15 p.m. Free and open to the public with a SXSW guest pass, available at guestpass.sxsw.com.

2 Some of Austin’s favorite day parties are up and running. See full lineups of music in Waterloo Records’ parking lot, at South by San Jose on South Congress Avenue and at Lucy’s Fried Chicken. Also, KGSR will broadcast live in the morning from the W Austin Hotel, while KUTX is Live at the Four Seasons.

3 Gamers, your time has come: The SXSW Gaming Conference and Festival kicks into gear Thursday. There will be competitio­ns, meetups, sessions on such issues as the use of virtual reality and augmented reality in video games — and, yes, it’s a safe bet there will be people in superhero costumes. Find it at the Austin Convention Center, 500 E. Cesar Chavez St.

4 Some of the acts playing showcases Thursday night include Willow Smith, Tank and the Bangas, Lost Brothers, Khalid, Bully and Dashboard Confession­al (find more at austin360.com/sxsw).

5 “Paradox” premiere: The movie ,“a whimsical tale of music and love,” features Neil Young and some Austin favorites, Willie, Lukas and Micah Nelson, and it’s directed by Daryl Hannah (7 p.m., Paramount Theatre).
