Her husband, Roland Silva, told council members that he wanted them to make Cedar Park a safe community and to “get an awareness out there that racing kills.”

The boys were killed while riding in a Nissan SUV driven by Elijah’s stepmother, Zara Salman.

She was slowing down to turn left on Walton Way when police say 18-year-old Hayden Hammer crashed into her while he was racing another driver, 21-yearold Blake Kirkpatrick.

Salman is the mother of Daniel Chaudhary. Her husband, Salman Chaudhary, is the father of both of the boys who were killed.

At the council meeting Thursday, Tansy Silva met for the first time a woman, Lisa Fuller, who witnessed the wreck and held Elijah after he was pulled out of the vehicle. Tansy Silva told council members that Fuller “cradled him and helped usher him into heaven.”

She later hugged Fuller and talked to reporters after leaving the meeting.

“She was with the woman who pulled my son out of the car,” Silva said. “She was praying for him; she felt drawn to him and was asking God to save him, but God had a different plan.”

Fuller replied, “It’s very surreal meeting (Tansy Silva) today because I already feel like I know her son.”

Cedar Park spokeswoman Jennie Huerta released a statement Thursday night after the Silvas spoke.

“The city is very interested to hear from Elijah’s mother and her comments will be seriously considered as we continue conducting a thorough evaluation into all the factors that were involved in the tragic crash that took two innocent young lives and caused grave injuries to a mother — forever impacting the involved families and our entire community,” Huerta said.
