Ex-Horn running back Warren signs deal with Raiders

Chris Warren III has signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. He is the eighth Longhorn to earn a second chance with a NFL team following the NFL Draft. Four of Warren’s former teammates also were drafted.

A 6-2, 247-pound Rockwall native, Warren experienced a series of highs and lows during his three years at Texas. He scored 13 times and averaged 5.6 yards over his 204 career carries, and he rushed for 276 yards against Texas Tech during his freshman year. Warren also suffered a slew of injuries, one of which paved the way for D’Onta Foreman’s breakout campaign in 2016.

Texas coaches moved Warren to tight end during the 2017 season. He told reporters last month, though, that he had expressed a desire to return to his natural position in the NFL.

Warren will attempt to gain some traction with an Oakland team that already has veterans Marshawn Lynch and Doug Martin on its roster.

Women’s basketball: Texas announced Sunday that former Texas A&M guard Danni Williams will join the team as a graduate transfer. The 5-10 Williams, who will earn a degree in sports management later this month, is eligible to play immediately during the 2018-19 season.

A native of Clovis, N.M., Williams spent the past three seasons at Texas A&M. An allSEC honoree during the 201617 campaign, Williams averaged 14.2 points per game and hit a school-record 71 three-pointers this past season. In the Texas A&M history books, Williams ranks second in career three-point percentage (35.4) and fifth in all-time free-throw percentage (80.7).

Baseball: Zach Zubia, a redshirt freshman, was named the Big 12’s newcomer of the week on Monday. It is the third time this season that Zubia has won this weekly honor. Only Kansas State’s Drew Mount has matched that feat. In four games this past week, Zubia went 5-for13 with three RBIs and four runs. (A pinch-runner for Zubia also scored twice).

Softball: Texas will enter this weekends’s Big 12 tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face Iowa State and Oklahoma in pool play. UT will play Iowa State at 11 a.m. on Friday, and the Texas/Oklahoma battle is set for 2 p.m.
