Buc-ee’s rival building 9 Central Texas stores to start

An Oklahoma convenience store chain is looking to make its mark in Central Texas, giving Texas-based Buc-ee’s a run for its money.

QuikTrip, which announced plans last year to open 100 locations in the Austin and San Antonio areas, has started construction on its first batch of stores.

Nine QuikTrip locations are in various stages of development in Central Texas, including ones in Austin, Cedar Park, Georgetown and Round Rock. Hiring will start this fall, with the first round of openings expected shortly thereafter.

The nine locations, according to city and state filings, are: ■ 221 E. Parmer Lane, Austin. ■ 861 E. Braker Lane, Austin. ■ 501 W. Wells Branch Pkwy., Austin. ■ 2723 S. Lakeline Blvd., Austin. ■ West New Hope Drive and U.S. 183, Cedar Park.

■ West Whitestone Boulevard and West New Hope Drive, Cedar Park.

■ 3901 Williams Drive, Georgetown.

■ 901 Louis Henna Blvd., Round Rock. ■ 2251 S. Mays St., Round Rock. Most of the new locations are being built on undeveloped land, but two — the ones at 221 E. Parmer Lane in Austin and 901 Louis Henna Blvd. in Round Rock — are taking the place of bank branches Capital One closed last year.

Each QuikTrip will cost in excess of $500,000 to build, according to filings with the state.

QuikTrip broke into Texas in 1999 and now has almost 150 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In total, the chain has about 750 locations spread across 11 states.

In addition to selling fuel and convenience store items, QuikTrip stores are known for their QT Kitchens, which serve custom-made breakfast bowls, pizzas and toasted sandwiches, among other offerings.
