Civitas Learning is expanding its education technology platform by acquiring a student engagement app for higher education.

Austin-based Civitas said it has purchased ClearScholar, an Indianapolis startup whose mobile app makes it easier for colleges and universities to get tailored information to students.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2011, Civitas Learning works with four-year universities, community colleges and other higher education institutions to analyze demographic, behavioral and academic data about their students.

Using historical and current data, the company builds predictive models to help students select degrees and courses, help faculty and advisers identify at-risk students and help all students stay on track to graduate on time.

About 8 million students at 350 campuses across the United States are using Civitas Learning’s software platform, the company said.

Three years ago, Civitas Learning raised $60 million in venture capital for expansion.

In 2016, the company acquired California-based College Scheduler, which offers a web-based automated service for college registration and class scheduling.

ClearScholar, founded in 2016, offers a mobile app that lets institutions recommend resources and activities specific to student interests and needs.
