For Texas freshman Sedona Prince, the comeback to join the basketball team has begun.

The 6-foot-7 post player from Liberty Hill had surgery Monday in Austin to repair her broken right leg. Surgery was considered “successful,” according to the university.

Prince suffered the injury while playing for the United States in the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship on Friday night in Mexico City. She broke the tibia and fibula in her lower right leg, her mother, Tambra Prince, said.

Prince is expected to make a full recovery, according to UT officials and expects to be ready for the 2019-20 season after sitting out this year with a medical redshirt, her mother said.

“I am so thankful to [USA Basketball Women’s National Team Director] Carol Callan, the USA Basketball staff and our training and administrative staff here at Texas for their diligence in caring for Sedona and transporting her back to Austin,” Texas coach Karen Aston said in a statement. “We are disappointed for her but will focus on her road to recovery with faith that she returns stronger and better than ever.”

Men’s basketball: Senior Kerwin Roach had surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his right knee Tuesday in Austin and is expected to make a full recovery by the start of the season, according to a Texas athletics press release.

Roach sustained the injury on Aug. 2 during a drill at the CP3 Elite Guard Camp in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The senior from Houston is expected to play a big role for the Longhorns in the 2018-19 season after choosing to return to school after declaring for the NBA Draft. After testing his stock, Roach opted to return to Texas, where he averaged 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game as a junior.

According to the release, there is no timetable for Roach’s return to basketball activity.

Soccer: The Longhorns will start the 2018 season ranked No. 17 by the United Soccer Coaches, the association announced Tuesday.

The preseason ranking is the highest for the Longhorns since 2009.
