Express skid hits seven in a row

Mitch Haniger homered as Seattle jumped on Justin Verlander for six runs in two innings, and the Mariners beat the Houston Astros 8-6 Thursday night.

Haniger, Denard Span and Jean Segura combined for 10 hits and seven RBIs with a homer each off the Astros’ ace, who was bidding for his 200th career victory.

Verlander (11-7) was ejected for arguing a balk call after setting a season high for runs allowed.

James Paxton (10-5) got the win, yielding seven hits and four runs in 5 2/3 innings to improve to 4-0 against the Astros this season. Edwin Diaz allowed a home run to Tyler White with two outs in the ninth before striking out Josh Reddick for his 43rd save.

Haniger had a season-high four hits with two RBIs, Span had three RBIs and finished a double shy of the cycle, and Segura added three hits and drove in two runs.

Haniger gave the Mariners theirfirst leadoff homer this season. Span followed with his second career triple off Verlander. Segura hit a ground-rule double, and Nelson Cruz added an RBI single to make it 3-0.

The loss was the seventh straight for the Express.

Dziedzic (6-8) went six scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out two and walking one to pick up the win.

Chris Tillman (0-1) went 2⅓ innings, allowing two runs and two hits for the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. He also struck out one and walked four.

Omaha batted around in the third inning, sending 10 hitters to the plate and scoring five runs, including a two-run double by Jack Lopez, who went 2 for 4 with four RBIs.

The Storm Chasers added one run in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the ninth to finish off the shutout.

Donnie Dewees singled four times, scoring two runs. Terrance Gore also scored twice.

Ramon Torres hit a home run.

The Express were blanked for the fourth time this season, and the Storm Chasers’ staff recorded its 11th shutout of the year.

Nick Torres and Franklin Rollin each had two hits for Round Rock.
