Oct. 17: Columbus Crew owner Anthony Precourt announces his intent to move the Major League Soccer team to Austin in 2019, prompting anger and legal action in Ohio.

Nov. 9: Austin City Council directs city staffers to analyze city-owned land that could be used for an MLS stadium.

Dec. 12: City staffers identify five city-owned sites, including two parkland sites adjacent to Lady Bird Lake and the 24acre vacant McKalla Place site near The Domain shopping complex.

2018

Jan. 26: Team removes Butler Shores near Zilker Park, once thought to be its favored location, from the site list. Feb. 27: Austin parks board unanimousl­y urges City Council to remove the other lakefront site, at Guerrero Park, from considerat­ion. March 5: Ohio’s attorney general and the city of Columbus sue Precourt and Major League Soccer, saying that a move to Austin would violate an Ohio law. March 24: Austin City Council directs the city manager to analyze McKalla Place as a stadium site. May 15: Precourt announces site plan for McKalla Place. June 1: City staff report concludes that McKalla Place would be a suitable site for a stadium. June 28: An 18-hour council meeting ends with approval of resolution­s for city to move forward with stadium negotiatio­ns while also receiving alternativ­e plans for McKalla site. Aug. 7: Developers present council with alternativ­e options for McKalla site.

Aug. 9: Council considers latest stadium terms, including a $1 million per year penalty if the team were to leave Austin, but puts off final vote.
