YWCA hosts celebration Thursday

The YWCA Greater Austin will host the Fabulous People Party from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday to celebrate and honor local residents and companies that work to advance women, civil rights and racial justice.

The event, at Gather Venues, 411 W. Monroe St., will include the presentation of four awards — Women of Color Leading Change, Ally, Legacy and #NewRadical — as well as drinks, live music and catered food.

Funds raised will benefit the YWCA and its programs. Tickets are $50-$100 and available at bit. ly/2Q9EBDF.

The Texas A&M AgriLife extension office will host a three-month wellness workshop series from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14 at Arise Ministries, 12129 FM 620 North.

The free workshops are focused on promoting health and healthy weight in adults. Those interested can participate at any particular or all three workshops. Prizes will be given to those who attend all three.

“Keeping Your Motivation” will be the theme of the Wednesday workshop; “Knowing Your Numbers” will be the Oct. 10 workshop; and “Fad Diets” will be the topic Nov. 14. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing for physical activity portion of the workshop.
