FBI agent accused of stealing from homes
Thefts took place during search warrant execution
A 36-year-old special agent working in the FBI's Houston Field Office has been indicted for allegedly stealing money and valuables from multiple homes during the execution of search warrants.
Nicholas Anthony Williams was arrested and charged with theft of personal and government property and providing false statements, according to a Justice Department news release. He is accused of committing the crimes from March 2022 to July 2023, when he served in both the field office's criminal violent gang and counterterrorism squads, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
“The FBI takes allegations of misconduct seriously and will hold accountable any employee who violates policy and/ or the law,” FBI's Houston Field Office said in a statement.
After taking the cash and property from the homes, Williams then converted it for his personal use, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office's news release.
Williams is also accused of stealing cellphones that were FBI property and lying about several fraudulent charges on his government-issued credit card, the Justice Department release said.
According to the field office's statement, the bureau reported the allegations made against Williams to the Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General once it was brought to authorities' attention.
“Every FBI employee is held to the highest standards, and our focus is on carrying out the FBI mission to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United States with integrity, every day,” the statement read.
