Former Austin-area stars head for college postseason

From Texas to Minnesota and beyond, former high school players from the Austin area are playing women’s basketball at various colleges and universiti­es. Some play for big schools (Texas, Oregon State); others plays for small schools (Howard Payne, Nicholls State). As conference tournament­s tip off around the country, here’s a look at where some locals are entering the NCAA postseason:

Lexi Alexander, Nicholls State: The former Cedar Ridge standout has started all 28 games for Nicholls and is among the team leaders, averaging 14 points and six rebounds.

Jade Clack, TCU: Clack, a former star at Austin High and the AmericanSt­atesman’s 2023 Central Texas player of the year, has played in 13 games as a freshman this season, averaging five minutes.

Elle Corbett, Macalester (Minn.) College: The sophomore forward from Bowie has played in 24 games for the Scots, blocking 17 shots.

Graci Harris, John Brown (Ark.) University: The 5-foot-7 guard from Georgetown has started all 22 games for the Golden Eagles, averaging 3.8 points and 4.0 assists.

Shelby Hayes, Rice: The former state champion from Cedar Park averages 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds as an Owls sophomore.

Shay Holle, Texas: The Longhorns’ senior from Westlake is enjoying her best season in college, averaging 7.2 points and shooting 50% for a team that’s 27-4.

Bailey Feathersto­ne, St. Edward’s: Starting in all 28 games for the Hilltopper­s, the freshman from Round Rock averages 11.7 points and 4.1 rebounds.

Aja Holmes, Howard Payne: The Yellow Jackets junior center from Luling has averaged 6.8 points and 2.9 rebounds while playing in 25 games.

Eriny Kindred, Florida: A transfer from Texas A&M, the former Del Valle star has played in 27 games for the Gators, averaging 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Zoe Nelson, Stephen F. Austin: A starter in all 25 games for the Ladyjacks, the junior forward from Hendrickso­n averages eight points and 7.5 rebounds.

AJ Marotte, Oregon State: A junior from Vista Ridge, Marotte averages 5.5 points and 1.8 rebounds for a team that’s 22-6.

Gisella Maul, Texas: The Longhorns freshman who led Cedar Park to consecutiv­e state championsh­ips has played in 22 games, averaging 2.2 points.

Jaaucklyn Moore, North Texas: The senior guard from Round Rock has scored in every game for the Eagles, averaging eight points while playing 25.8 minutes a game.

Britney Onyeje, Houston: The 5-9 graduate student from Pflugerville, a transfer from Central Florida, averages 6.3 points and 2.2 boards.

Sedona Prince, TCU: The former McDonald’s All-American from Liberty Hill leads the Horned Frogs with averages of 21.3 points and 10.3 rebounds.

Erika Suarez, Temple College: A starter in all 26 games, the sophomore from Hendrickso­n averages eight points for the Leopards.

Keniah Williams, Angelo State: The sophomore post from Georgetown has played in all 31 games for the Rams, averaging 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds.
