Kitty rules her Parkville home

-

Despite her perfect manners and friendly nature, someone left the 19-year-old brown-and-black tabby outside the Baltimore Humane Society this spring after the cat had problems using her litter box.

Sheena Callahan figured that was no way to treat a sweet old lady. So in May, she and her husband, Cliff, brought Alley the cat home to live with them and their other pets in Parkville.

“Senior animals are so overlooked because people think they don’t have much time with them,” Callahan said. “But in reality, they’re in their prime. They come with manners and they’re more relaxed and snuggly. At her age, she deserves a nice home.”

The Callahans thought Alley might be having problems with her bladder or kidneys, so they put her on supplements. They thought that perhaps she had a touch of arthritis, so they made sure that she could reach her litter box without having to climb any steps. “She hasn’t had any problems with her using the litter box at all,” Sheena Callahan said.

Alley settled in as though she’d been living with the Callahans for her entire life. She immediately began bossing around the couple’s three cats and four dogs from her favorite place atop the computer. “She’s wonderful,” Sheena Callahan said. “We’re just glad we can help her out for a couple of years. She’ll be ours until the end.” Read about local pets, or share your own story. We’re interested in cats and dogs, but also hamsters, hedgehogs, turtles, horses, chickens — the whole pet gamut.
