Julie J. Ramsey, businesswoman

Julie J. Ramsey, a businesswoman who also worked in real estate sales in the Baltimore area, died July 7 at Johns Hopkins Hospital after suffering a stroke. She was 58.

The daughter of Edward Jenkins, a steelworker, and Annabelle Jenkins, a homemaker, Julie Clementine Jenkins was born and raised in Pittsburgh, where she graduated in 1975 from Bishop Boyle High School.

Ms. Ramsey earned a bachelor’s degree from Carlow University in Pittsburgh in 1999, and moved that year to Colesville in Montgomery County.

She worked as an administrative assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis in 2003, then later worked in New York City.

In 2010, she and her husband, Gregory W. Ramsey, moved to Pikesville, where she took a position as an administrative assistant at T. Rowe Price. She worked there for a year before establishing the Greener Cleaner, a cleaning business.

She obtained her real estate license and at the time of her death was working for Maizon Real Estate in Owings Mills.

Ms. Ramsey was an active member of Araminta Freedom Initiative, a Baltimore-based organization that works to end human trafficking.

She was also an active member of PEO International, a philanthropic organization that celebrates the advancement of women, and the Northeasterners, a social organization that promotes networking and social activism for women. She had just been elected president of the Maryland chapter of that organization.

“She had a heart for people,” said her husband of 25 years, a professor of information science at Morgan State University.

She was a member of Trinity Life Church, 2122 W. Joppa Road, Lutherville, where a celebration-of-life service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a nephew and a niece. Her daughter, Nicole Giles, died in 1988. An earlier marriage to Robert Giles ended in divorce.
