MDA’s annual Party for a Cure

-

Any fashionista worth her salt knows that being stylish is more than knowing what’s on trend. It’s also knowing which current styles work well on her. At the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Maryland’s eight annual Party for a Cure, Hannah Fallon, 18, proved she was no exception, even though she works with a different set of parameters than many. The Parkville resident was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy Type 2 when she was around 18 months old and has been in a wheelchair for years. That means trying to be trendy has its limitations. “Sometimes it’s difficult because I’m always sitting down,” she said. There can be too much tucking in, or something that could drag on the ground and get caught in the wheels of the chair. Fallon, a Community College of Baltimore County student, approaches fashion with a lot of joy and humor. For example, take her explanation for why she always wears flats. “I can’t wear heels because my knees would be up my nose. We tried it once and it was like, I can’t move,” she said, laughing. HER STYLE: “Whatever keeps me warm. I am always, always cold. I love infinity scarves.” ADDED EMBELLISHMENT: “My sister-in-law, Maggie Fallon, did my makeup for me. She put on a variety of Urban Decay’s Naked pallette eye shadows. It was very meaningful that Maggie did my makeup because I have never had someone to do my makeup for me. She made me feel like the belle of the ball.”
