Anne Arundel police investigat­e assaults

Anne Arundel County Police are investigat­ing two sexual assaults in which women accepted rides in Baltimore from men they didn’t know and were driven to Brooklyn Park and Curtis Bay. One woman was picked up Thursday afternoon in the area of Fourth Street and Washburn Avenue and driven to the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn Park, where she was sexually assaulted by one suspect, police said. The suspect is described as a black male, 30 to 40 years old, about 5 foot 7, of stocky build and balding. Another victim was picked up at 3:30 a.m. Saturday near Fairhaven Avenue and Elmtree Street and driven to Stahl Pointe Road and Ordinance Road. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 30s, with very short blond hair and a beard. Police said the victims did not know the drivers and voluntaril­y accepted rides from them. Five shot in city Friday night

Five men were shot, one fatally, in Baltimore on Friday night, police said. Two were shot in the 500 block of E. 26th St. in Waverly about 11 p.m.. One victim, who has not been identified, died at an area hospital from his injuries. A short time later, another man walked into an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand. Police said he had also been shot in the block. About 9 p.m., officers went to an area hospital where a man who had been shot arrived. Police said the man had been shot in the 2100 block of Wilkens Ave. in Carrollton Ridge. No additional informatio­n about a suspect or motive was provided by police. About 10 p.m., another man walked into an area hospital after being shot in the 2600 block of Reistersto­wn Road in Mondawmin, police said. When officers arrived, they found a 37-year old man being treated by the hospital staff for a gunshot wound to his leg. Police said the victim told officers he was operating an illegal taxi cab when a passenger pulled out a gun and announced a robbery. The victim and passenger struggled over the gun and the passenger shot the victim. The passenger fled, and the victim drove himself to the hospital, police said.

Thurmont man charged in pipe bomb attack

THURMONT — A Thurmont man has been charged in a pipe bomb explosion that damaged a local Police Department vehicle. Officials said Saturday that 22-year-old Kyle Rutger Mueller is charged with four counts of possession of a destructiv­e device, two counts of malicious destructio­n of property and one count of reckless endangerme­nt. He was being held on $300,000 bond with a preliminar­y hearing scheduled for Sept. 1, according to online court records. The pipe bomb exploded about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, damaging a marked police SUV parked in front of an officer’s home on Clark Avenue.
