Towson falls to Bednarczyk, Villanova
Tigers score first but lose, 40-21; Hopkins beats Moravian, 29-21
Zack Bednarczyk threw three touchdown passes and Rob Rolle returned an interception 100 yards for a score to lead host Villanova to a 40-21 victory over Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams Saturday.
Bednarczyk was 20-for-26 for 230 yards. Taurus Phillips had seven receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats (2-1, 1-0).
Shane Simpson returned the opening kickoff 53 yards and ran in from the 3 to cap a 10-play scoring drive for Towson (1-2, 0-1). Villanova scored touchdowns on its next four possessions to take a 26-14 lead at halftime.

JOHNS HOPKINS 29, MORAVIAN 21: The host Blue Jays (3-0, 2-0 Centennial Conference) trailed 6-3 before going on a 26-0 run, then held off a comeback by the Greyhounds (2-1, 1-1).
Hopkins quarterback Jonathan Germano went 34-for-53 for 331 yards, and threw two interceptions and two touchdown passes.
STEVENSON 24, LEBANON VALLEY 13: Dan Williams went 23-for-28 for 192 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Mustangs (3-0, 2-0 Middle Atlantic Conference) past the Flying Dutchmen (1-2, 1-1).
SALISBURY 40, MONTCLAIR STATE 20: Connor Canonico rushed for two touchdowns and the Sea Gulls defense held the visiting Red Hawks (1-1, 0-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference) scoreless in the second and third quarters. Salisbury improved to 2-0, 1-0.
FROSTBURG STATE 24, SOUTHERN VIRGINIA 7: Jordan Brown rushed 20 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Bobcats (2-1, 1-1 New Jersey AC) past the Knights (1-1, 0-1).
MUHLENBERG 42, MCDANIEL 13: The host Green Terror (0-3) scored twice in the fourth quarter but fell to the Mules (3-0).
CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE 44, BOWIE STATE 35: Brenden Lytton rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns and Cameron Nash for 118 yards and one touchdown, as the host Blue Devils (1-2) beat the Bulldogs (1-2).
Amir Hall finished with 418 yards and three touchdown passes, and Nyme Manns had 150 receiving yards and a touchdown for Bowie State.
