The Jays own the tiebreaker. With Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel pitching, Michael Saunders walked, and pinch runner Dalton Pompey took second on a sacrifice and third on a wild pitch, then scored on Carrera’s fly. ■ Orioles: Mark Trumbo had four hits, but the Orioles coughed up a three-run lead and fell to the Yankees 7-3, leaving the AL wildcard race unsettled. The Orioles (88-73) and Blue Jays (88-73) lead for the two wild cards, with the Tigers (86-74) and the Mariners (86-74) a game and a half out. ■ Tigers: Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis homered and the Braves damaged the Tigers’ playoff hopes with a 5-3 victory. The Tigers are 11⁄2 games out of a wild-card spot. They will have ace Justin Verlander on the mound Sunday, then will play the Indians in a makeup home game Monday if it affects the playoffs. ■ Giants: Rookie Ty Blach outpitched Clayton Kershaw, and the Giants kept their lead for the second NL playoff spot by blanking the Dodgers 3-0. The Giants stayed one game ahead of the Cardinals. A win Sunday or a Cardinals loss will put the Giants in the playoffs. Blach earned his first big-league victory, pitching eight innings of three-hit ball. ■ Cardinals: Jedd Gyorko hit a go-ahead homer, Matt Holliday keyed a three-run sixth with a pinch RBI single and the Cardinals pushed the NL playoff race to the final day by edging the Pirates 4-3. Gyorko became the first Cardinal to hit 30 homers since Carlos Beltran in 2012. Adam Wainwright will start Game No. 162. ■ Nationals: Rookie Trea Turner hit his 13th home run and Bryce Harper had an RBI single in a 2-1 win over the Marlins. When the Giants beat the Dodgers, the Nationals clinched home-field advantage for the NL Division Series against the Dodgers. Tanner Roark (16-10) allowed one run in 52⁄3 innings. a-popped out for Butler in the 8th. bwalked for Refsnyder in the 8th. c-struck out for Reimold in the 9th. 1-ran for Teixeira in the 5th.
