Tigers fall to Spiders, 31-28

Hopkins, Stevenson, Salisbury stay perfect; Chesson leads Bowie St.

David Broadus ran the ball in from the 2-yard line on fourth down in the fourth quarter to put host Richmond ahead, and the Spiders held on to beat Towson, 31-28, on Saturday.

The Spiders, trailing 28-24, lined up for a field goal, but quickly shifted Broadus into the quarterbac­k slot and he ran in for the winning score with 10:16 left.

Towson drove to the Richmond 38 but turned the ball over on downs with 53 seconds remaining.

Quarterbac­k Kyle Lauletta finished with 233 yards and three touchdowns on 20-for-31 passing and Xavier Goodall rushed for 128 yards as Richmond (4-1, 1-1) evened its Colonial Athletic Associatio­n record.

Shane Simpson led Towson (1-3, 0-2) with 106 rushing yards on 12 carries, and Darius Victor ran for 99 yards on 19 attempts.

Towson led 28-21 with 13:11 remaining in the third. Griffin Trau kicked a field goal to make it 28-24.

BOWIE STATE 37, FAYETTEVIL­LE STATE 3: Robert Chesson (Old Mill) had three straight rushing touchdowns to power the host Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0 Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n) past the Broncos (0-5, 0-2).

Chesson broke a 3-3 tie with a 1-yard run with 3:23 left in the first quarter. He added two more in the second quarter: a 4-yard run with 10:37 left in the first half and another 1-yarder with 7:47 left in the first half.

JOHNS HOPKINS 52, JUNIATA 17: The host Blue Jays (5-0, 4-0 Centennial Conference) used a 31-3 secondquar­ter run to cruise past the Eagles (3-2, 2-2).

Hopkins heads into a bye week as the only unbeaten team in the conference.

Johns Hopkins led 14-7 early in the second quarter after a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jonathan Germano to Ryan Cary capped a six-play, 67-yard drive.

Matt Lehr went 68 yards on the second play of Juniata’s drive to set up a first-and-goal from the Blue Jays 6-yard line. But three rushes later the Eagles were stuck at the Hopkins 2 and had to settle for a 19-yard field goal.

Hopkins scored three more touchdowns and a field goal before halftime.

STEVENSON 48, MISERICORD­IA 0: Jainard Crawley-Lambert had 19 carries for 130 yards and three touchdowns to power the visiting Mustangs (5-0, 4-0 Middle Atlantic Conference) past the Cougars (0-5, 0-4).

Crawley-Lambert opened the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run with 8:39 left in the first quarter. He added two more in the second quarter: a 4-yard run with 7:48 left and a 21-yard run with a 1:59 left in the first half.

SALISBURY 41, COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY 6: The host Sea Gulls (4-0, 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) were down 6-0 early in the game before scoring 41 straight points.

The Lions fell to 0-4 and 0-3. Salisbury amassed 611 yards of total offense to 143 by College of New Jersey.

Connor Canonico led Salisbury’s ground game with 12 carries for 134 yards. Brady Curley (5-for-80) had touchdown runs of 15 and 16 yards in the first and second quarter, respective­ly. Quarterbac­k Ryan Jones went 4-for-6 for a 191 yards and a touchdown pass for Salisbury.

FROSTBURG STATE 25, KEAN 18: Jamaal Morant scored the gamewinnin­g touchdown and added a 2-point conversion pass to lift the Bobcats (3-1, 2-1 NJAC) over the host Cougars (3-2, 2-2) in a come-forbehind victory.

Kean took an 18-17 lead with 1:20 left in the third quarter. Morant scored with 13:54 left in the game.

Frostburg finished with 252 yards in total offense behind 141 passing yards. Connor Cox (South River) completed 10 of 17 passes for 141 yards and ran for an additional 21 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

GETTYSBURG 38, MCDANIEL 23: The host Bullets (2-3, 2-2 Centennial) scored the first 21 points and held on to beat the Green Terror (1-4, 1-3).

Will Koester led McDaniel with 251 passing yards, completing 27 of 49 throws for three touchdowns.

Danny Thompson paced Gettysburg with 117 rushing yards and 95 passing.
