Big plays help Towson rally in 34-24 win

Morgan, Bowie St. fall; Hopkins tops McDaniel

Shane Simpson ran for a careerhigh 202 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries to help host Towson rally for a 34-24 win over William & Mary on Saturday. The Tigers (3-7, 2-5 Colonial Athletic Association) rushed for three touchdowns and a season-high 274 yards.

On the second play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Simpson took a handoff up the middle, spun out of a would-be tackle and raced 70 yards for a touchdown to trim Towson’s deficit to 21-17. The Tribe responded with a nine-play, 67-yard drive that stalled at the 4-yard line and ended with a 21-yard field goal by Kris Hooper. Season finale Radio:

On the ensuing kickoff, Keon Paye fielded a low kick off the hop and went 81 yards, untouched, for a score.

After a William & Mary punt, Towson’s Morgan Mahalak was 3for-3 passing on third down during a 14-play, 93-yard drive that was capped by Christian Summers’ 11-yard touchdown run and gave Towson the lead, 31-24, with 14:41 left.

Kendell Anderson had 140 yards rushing and a score for William & Mary.

FLORIDA A&M 22, MORGAN STATE 21: Ryan Stanley threw fourthquarter touchdown passes to rally the host Rattlers (4-6, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) past the Bears (2-7, 2-5).

Chris Andrews scored from the 4 to give Morgan State a 21-9 lead after three quarters, but the Bears’ losing streak reached five straight games.

WINSTON-SALEM 43, BOWIE STATE 33: The Rams (9-2) went on a 16-0 run that spanned both halves to pull away from the Bulldogs (7-4) in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game at Salem, Va.

Bowie State quarterback Amir Hall was 27-for-46 for 348 yards and threw three touchdown passes.

JOHNS HOPKINS 48, MCDANIEL 28: The host Blue Jays (10-0, 9-0 Centennial Conference) took a 27-0 lead and rolled past the Green Terror (3-7, 3-6).

Hopkins quarterback Jonathan Germano was 27-for-31 for 326 yards and threw three touchdown passes. Germano added a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:45 left in the game.

The Blue Jays had 498 yards of total offense to 267 for McDaniel.

STEVENSON 28, LYCOMING 10: The visiting Mustangs (9-1, 8-1) claimed their first Middle Atlantic Conference championship by beating the Warriors (3-7, 2-7).

FROSTBURG STATE 21, SALISBURY 17: Connor Cox (South River) completed 13 of 31 passes for 151 yards and threw three touchdowns as the host Bobcats (9-1, 8-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference) won the Regents Cup by beating the Sea Gulls (7-3, 6-3).

Frostburg State took the lead for good on Cox’s second touchdown pass with 1:18 left in the first half.
