Morsell’s 3 caps Towson’s rally

UMBC, Loyola Md. earn victories

Eddie Keith II had 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting, John Davis had his second consecutiv­e double double and Mike Morsell hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to help host Towson beat William & Mary, 82-80, on Saturday.

Morsell finished with 11 points, Davis also scored 11 to go with 15 rebounds, and Brian Starr added 13 points and five assists for the Tigers, who trailed by 17 points three minutes into the second half.

Daniel Dixon’s layup with 46 seconds left gave the Tribe (13-10, 7-5 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) an 80-77 lead, but Starr hit two free throws and, after a William & Mary turnover, Morsell’s 3 put Towson (7-5, 15-10) up by two. Dixon missed a potential winning 3-pointer with two seconds left.

UMBC 83, MAINE 71: Will Darley (Dulaney) hit six 3-pointers and finished with 31 points and the visiting Retrievers won their third straight game with an 83-71 win over the Black Bears (5-20, 1-9 America East).

Darley finished 11-for-20 from the field. Joe Sherburne added 16 points for UMBC (16-7, 7-3), which hit nine 3-pointers and outscored Maine 20-5 off the bench.

The 16 victories on the season are the Retrievers’ most since winning 15 in 2008-09, and their eight road wins are the most since 2007-08.

LOYOLA MARYLAND 78, ARMY WEST POINT 63: Andre Walker scored 25 points, making five of his team’s six 3-pointers, and the host Greyhounds (13-10, 7-5 Patriot League) won their fourth straight, beating the Black Knights (9-15, 3-9).

Jarred Jones (John Carroll) added 16 points and Cam Gregory 14 for Loyola.

COLGATE 55, NAVY 52: Jordan Swopshire scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds as host Raiders (8-17, 6-6 Patriot) ended the Midshipmen’s eightgame winning streak.

Swopshire was 4-for-6 from the field — all 3-pointers — for Colgate. Sean O’Brien added 10 points and Malcolm Regisford led the team with 11 rebounds in addition to his seven points. The Raiders averaged 45.7 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Shawn Anderson led the Midshipmen (13-11, 8-4) with 12 points.

CENTRAL CONNECTICU­T STATE 54, MOUNT ST. MARY’S 52: Khalen Cumberland­er had 14 points and eight rebounds and the Blue Devils (5-18, 3-9 Northeast Conference) rallied from 15 down to beat the host Mount (12-13, 10-2).

Elijah Long (John Carroll) had 10 points for the Mount.

UMES 78, COPPIN STATE 57: Ryan Andino scored a game-high 24 points to lead the host Hawks (8-16, 5-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) past the Eagles (5-19, 4-5).

UMES took a 40-23 lead in the first half. Chas Brown led Coppin State with 14 points.
