McDonogh has another solid outing

Eagles win 4th straight nonconfere­nce game

Top-ranked McDonogh made a strong opening argument as the team to beat Saturday with its fourth straight win against a nonconfere­nce opponent.

The Eagles went on a 4-1 run in the fourth quarter to win, 10-6, over Chaminade (N.Y.) on Saturday in Philadelph­ia. The Flyers fell to 0-1. The first half ended in a 4-4 tie, but McDonogh got traction late in the third quarter.

Jack Simmons scored on a twoman-down for a 6-5 advantage.

Liam Powderly extended the lead in the fourth quarter with a goal and an assist on Jack Parr’s first of two goals for an 8-5 Eagles lead with 5:42 left.

Griffin Catlett scored on an empty net for a 9-5 lead and McDonogh ran the clock down in the final two minutes.

NO. 8 JOHN CARROLL 16, HOLY GHOST PREP (PA.) 3: Jude Brown and Nick Nossachi had three goals each and six other players scored as the host Patriots (2-2) beat the Firebirds (0-1). John Carroll led 9-1 at halftime. AVON (CONN.) OLD FARMS 14, NO. 9 GILMAN 9: The host Greyhounds (2-2) lost their second straight, falling to the Winged Beavers (2-0).

Austin Hudson had a hat trick for Gilman, which lost 6-5 in overtime to Georgetown Prep on Friday.
