Senators beat Bruins in OT, tie series

Dion Phaneuf scored at 1:59 of overtime and the Senators rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Bruins on Saturday in Ottawa, Ontario.

Phaneuf, a 12-year veteran, scored the winner from the point as Alex Burrows provided a screen.

“It feels great to do it here in front of our fans, it’s just incredible,” Phaneuf said. “I’ve played a long time and this is my first overtime winner and it feels great. I tried to get as much on it and luckily it found a way through.”

The Senators rallied from a 3-1 deficit after the second period with two goals to force overtime.

The Eastern Conference series is tied 1-1 and Game 3 is Monday night in Boston.

Clarke MacArthur, Chris Wideman and Derick Brassard also scored for the Senators. Craig Anderson made 26 saves.

Drew Stafford, Tim Schaller and Patrice Bergeron scored for the Bruins. Tuukka Rask stopped 25 shots.

The Senators started the overtime with the man advantage when Bruins captain Zdeno Chara took a delay of game penalty by shooting the puck over the glass with 12.5 seconds remaining in regulation.

Trailing 3-1 to start the third, the Senators scored twice in a span of 2:20 to tie the game.

Wideman, with his first playoff goal, made it 3-2 with a goal from the point and Brassard, off a great pass from Erik Karlsson, tied the game at 7:48 off a one-timer.

Blue Jackets LW Matt Calvert was suspended one game for his cross-check to the Penguins’ Tom Kuhnhackl late in the third period of a Game 2 loss to the Penguins. Calvert will miss Game 3 on Sunday. The league announced the suspension Saturday night. Kuhnhackl practiced Saturday. Had he been injured, the league would have factored that into the length of Calvert’s suspension . ... The Ducks reassigned LW Ondrej Kase to their AHL affiliate in San Diego to clear room for LW Nick Ritchie to make his Stanley Cup playoff debut. The Ducks made the move several hours before Game 2 of their first-round series with the Flames. Ritchie completed a two-game suspension for punching the Blackhawks’ Michal Rozsival in the Ducks’ penultimat­e regular-season game . ... Connor McDavid and Zack Kassian scored short-handed goals late Friday to help the Oilers beat the Sharks 2-0 in Edmonton, evening their first-round series at one game apiece.
