Se­na­tors beat Bru­ins in OT, tie se­ries

Dion Pha­neuf scored at 1:59 of over­time and the Se­na­tors ral­lied for a 4-3 vic­tory over the Bru­ins on Saturday in Ot­tawa, On­tario.

Pha­neuf, a 12-year vet­eran, scored the win­ner from the point as Alex Bur­rows pro­vided a screen.

“It feels great to do it here in front of our fans, it’s just in­cred­i­ble,” Pha­neuf said. “I’ve played a long time and this is my first over­time win­ner and it feels great. I tried to get as much on it and luck­ily it found a way through.”

The Se­na­tors ral­lied from a 3-1 deficit af­ter the sec­ond pe­riod with two goals to force over­time.

The East­ern Con­fer­ence se­ries is tied 1-1 and Game 3 is Monday night in Bos­ton.

Clarke MacArthur, Chris Wide­man and Der­ick Bras­sard also scored for the Se­na­tors. Craig An­der­son made 26 saves.

Drew Stafford, Tim Schaller and Pa­trice Berg­eron scored for the Bru­ins. Tuukka Rask stopped 25 shots.

The Se­na­tors started the over­time with the man ad­van­tage when Bru­ins cap­tain Zdeno Chara took a de­lay of game penalty by shoot­ing the puck over the glass with 12.5 sec­onds re­main­ing in reg­u­la­tion.

Trail­ing 3-1 to start the third, the Se­na­tors scored twice in a span of 2:20 to tie the game.

Wide­man, with his first play­off goal, made it 3-2 with a goal from the point and Bras­sard, off a great pass from Erik Karls­son, tied the game at 7:48 off a one-timer.

Blue Jack­ets LW Matt Calvert was sus­pended one game for his cross-check to the Pen­guins’ Tom Kuhn­hackl late in the third pe­riod of a Game 2 loss to the Pen­guins. Calvert will miss Game 3 on Sunday. The league an­nounced the sus­pen­sion Saturday night. Kuhn­hackl prac­ticed Saturday. Had he been in­jured, the league would have fac­tored that into the length of Calvert’s sus­pen­sion . ... The Ducks re­as­signed LW On­drej Kase to their AHL af­fil­i­ate in San Diego to clear room for LW Nick Ritchie to make his Stan­ley Cup play­off de­but. The Ducks made the move sev­eral hours be­fore Game 2 of their first-round se­ries with the Flames. Ritchie com­pleted a two-game sus­pen­sion for punch­ing the Black­hawks’ Michal Roz­si­val in the Ducks’ penul­ti­mate reg­u­lar-sea­son game . ... Con­nor McDavid and Zack Kas­sian scored short-handed goals late Fri­day to help the Oil­ers beat the Sharks 2-0 in Ed­mon­ton, evening their first-round se­ries at one game apiece.
