Ohio State, Denver move on to DI semifinals
Boston College, Salisbury roll to women’s victories
Eric Fannell scored the first goal and finished with a game-high five goals as third-seeded Ohio State beat perennial powerhouse Duke, 16-11, in the NCAA Division I men’s quarterfinals at Hempstead, N.Y., Saturday.
The Buckeyes (15-4) outscored the Blue Devils (13-5), 7-3, in the second quarter to pull away. Ohio State advances to the semifinals and will face the winner of Syracuse/Towson.
DENVER 16, NOTRE DAME 4: Junior Tewaaraton finalist Trevor Baptiste went 21-of-22 from face-offs and scored his 12th goal of the season to lead the fifth-seeded Pioneers (13-3) to their fifth Championship Weekend appearance in the last seven seasons with a victory over the fourthseeded Fighting Irish (9-6) in an NCAA Divsion I quarterfinal at Hempstead, N.Y.
Baptiste picked up 13 ground balls off his 21 faceoffs to move into fifth in NCAA history in that category with 475.
Denver will face the winner of Maryland/Albany in Saturday’s semifinal. (16-6) past the Trojans (18-4) in an NCAA Division I quarterfinal.
Boston College next faces Navy in the Final Four Friday at 7:30 p.m.
